An interaction between three powerful players, Quest Ensemble bring a unique take to the classical piano trio format, collaboratively creating original work that seamlessly blends improvisation with devised composition. Intrinsically contemporary in approach, this ensemble inhabits a lyrical sound world somewhere in the gaps between chamber, jazz, folk and 20th Century classical music - with intriguing traces of Vaughn Williams, Steve Reich, and Esbjörn Svensson Trio.
With music as likely to feature a string quartet with a one-string junkshop guitar and a harmonium as a typical band format, Skeins combine a disparate mixture of influences (from post rock to film soundtracks and traditional European folk music) with their own haunting songs. A line up completed with addition of Dave Oliver, piano/flute and Tom Ruppel on double bass means we can expect shows to be chilling spines up and down the country in anticipation of their debut EP at the end of the summer.
